“Killdeer unifies the collective experiences of Ambrose, Green and Jagels not only through their years of participation in the region’s music scene, but through endeavors in the United States and abroad (…) The embrace of creative versatility extends far beyond the band’s name and deep into Killdeer’s approach to musical composition, with equal focus on cohesion and improvisation.”
— Ian Kenyon, ALLOTSEGO
“The trio’s cohesion felt all the more impressive in combining unity with freedom, as they listened and reacted in in calm, unruffled ease.”
— Michael Hochanadel, HOKESJUKEBOX
Killdeer Trio is an instrumental trio co-led by bassist Evan Jagels, drummer Sebastian Green, and guitarist Wyatt Ambrose.
Individually the members of the Trio have worked with acclaimed musicians of various styles including Stacy Dillard, John Stowell, Arlen Roth, Eric Finland, and Palehound. As a band, they aim to draw from their wide-reaching influences to create an experience that is accessible to audiences of all kinds.
The name Killdeer Trio comes from the “Killdeer” bird, commonly found in the Upstate NY — the region each member was raised, and now currently resides. Their music is deeply influenced by the rural environment in which it was conceived, reflecting both its quiet serenity, and constant invitation to explore the surrounding unknown. Killdeer Trio blends deep grooves, folk-like melodies, searing electric guitar, and free improvisation into a unique sound that rides the line between Modern Jazz, and popular music.
Killdeer Trio released their debut self-titled album on May 11th, 2023, which is available on all streaming platforms.
In February 2024 Killdeer Trio opened for the legendary saxophonist Joel Frahm Trio feat. Dan Loomis and Ernesto Cervini at the Alias Winter Jazz Festival in Troy NY.
