The Big and Glassy Book Club will be meeting to discuss Octavia Butler’s 1993 speculative novel: Parable of a Sower. The story is set in 2025 and follows the life of Lauren Olamina, an eighteen-year-old Black woman living in a climate change ravaged California and suffering from hyperempathy, a condition that causes her to feel the pain of others as well as her own. The author, a Black woman herself, was the recipient of the Hugo award, among numerous other accolades, and was a MacArthur Fellow. The meeting is open to the public and interested parties are encouraged to attend, having read the book or not.
