In the beginning, before The Other Side, there was the Cafe Domenico. The Cafe has been Utica’s Genuine Java Joint since 2002.
The Cafe, like The Other Side, was the product of a dream, a vision of a beautiful space in the city designed for face-to-face conviviality and conversation, a refuge from the fast-paced, formica-topped, big-box chain-store world. Coffeehouses have historically been hotbeds of revolutionary ideas and spirit. The Cafe tries to be true to that legacy. But, the revolution begins with an alluring atmosphere and with great coffee.
The Cafe serves only 100% organic Mayorga Coffee. Martin Mayorga buys all of his coffee directly from small farmers whom he treats as partners in his business, looking out for their health, community and well-being. His coffee is all roasted to order by one of the country’s finest roastmasters insuring freshness and consistency. Like the Cafe, they are fanatics about doing coffee right. The Cafe serves a full range of brewed coffee and espresso beverages both hot and iced, as well as Republic of Tea teas, matcha lattes, Oregon and Blue Lotus Chai and a variety of locally baked pastries from Bagel Grove, Heidelberg Bakery, Karam’s Bakery, The Dessert Booth and La Bakerie.
There’s always great music playing at the Cafe from their collection of several hundred jazz, blues, rock, folk, country and world music cds, and always something new (and lots that’s old and interesting) on the walls to catch your eye. Finally, if you have work or study to do there’s now free Wi-Fi. Outdoor seating is available when weather permits.
