Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is an absolutely electrifying and iconic work that has stunned American stages since it debuted in the early 1960s. We are so glad to help welcome in a new spirit of theater-going culture in our area\, especially for this kind of gripping\, and thought-provoking work.” \nWho’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf opened on Broadway in 1962 with a production that received rave reviews for its raw power and provocative content winning the Tony Award for Best Play. The play’s controversial exploration of a volatile co-dependent marriage and the effects that can come with psychological and emotional warfare sparked a new era in the American theater vernacular. The production ran for nearly two years and was adapted for the screen in 1966 in Mike Nichols’ directorial film debut starring Elizabeth Taylor\, Richard Burton\, Sandy Dennis and George Segal. The story is set in 2025 and follows the life of Lauren Olamina\, an eighteen-year-old Black woman living in a climate change ravaged California and suffering from hyperempathy\, a condition that causes her to feel the pain of others as well as her own. The author\, a Black woman herself\, was the recipient of the Hugo award\, among numerous other accolades\, and was a MacArthur Fellow. DESCRIPTION:Chess Records in Chicago was one of the most important labels in American music. \nIt introduced the world to the first electric band in Muddy Waters’ ensemble. It gave us some of the greatest blues vocalists (Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Etta James\, Koko Taylor\, et.al)\, the greatest blues harmonica players (Little Walter\, Sonny Boy Williamson)\, some of the greatest guitarists (Buddy Guy\, Hubert Sumlin\, Elmore James)\, and as if that wasn’t enough\, Chess Records gave us prototype rock n roll with Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. \nJoin us when Tom Townsley and his intrepid House Band featuring Morris Tarbell\, Sean Peters\, Jake Lozo\, and Lenny Milano celebrate the legacy of this great American label with special guests Dave Liddy\, George Deveny\, and Jes Sheldon.
