Hamilton College at TOS : Onondaga Lake: The sacred, the sullied, and the Superfund
January 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Onondaga Lake in the heart of Syracuse is viewed in many ways: as the most polluted lake in the United States, a Superfund success story, a closed industrial waste landfill, and, to the Haudenosaunee Nations, a sacred space. What created these diverse identities and how can they co-exist? Professor Lowry will guide you through Onondaga Lake’s history, place in Haudenosaunee culture, and its current status.
Alma Lowry, Lecturer in Environmental Studies, Of Counsel, Law Office of Joseph Heath/General Counsel to the Onondaga Nation
